In 1973, he developed a sand and gravel business on his family’s farm and borrowed a modest sum of money (£200) to purchase machinery to begin supplying gravel and construction materials to the local market.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he diversified beyond quarrying into cement manufacturing, concrete products, and building materials, the company also ventured into the Hospitality sector purchasing pubs and hotels throughout Ireland creating a vertically integrated business. This strategic approach laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Quinn Group.
